♣♣♣♣♣ This has been the most rewarding and engaging section in my academic life here at UCSB. I came in undeclared with a very Western perception of the world, especially the environment. I’m leaving this section with an expanded perspective, one that’s really mobilized me towards action and also as an English Major! I’m so grateful for how knowledgeable Professor Hiltner is and how he has been able to communicate himself t us as well as how he’s been able to unpack very heavy and complex topics.

♣♣♣♣♣ This section was incredibly helpful in understanding the sometimes complicated condense material of the class. Ken Hiltner not only does a great job explaining the material he teaches one on one, but is also extremely knowledgeable on the topic of climate change in its entirety. I have greatly enjoyed gathering this knowledge and look forward to using it in my future endeavors.

♣♣♣♣♣ Very passionate about his teaching and the subject/topics being discussed. Offers easy to understand explanations of course material and how we can apply the information learned into our daily lives. Truly enjoyed the course and its honors seminar—it truly allowed me to challenge myself to think more deeply.

♣♣♣♣♣ I really admired Ken’s approach to teaching this course. While sometimes it was repetitive, I thoroughly enjoyed learning an environmentally criticizing approach to literature. It changed my perspective on how I saw and analyzed literature.

♣♣♣♣♣ I found this course very eye-opening and engaging. It introduced me to topics that I rarely came into contact with in high school. Although can be a lot of reading at times, it proved to be beneficial and relevant in the course and in life.

♣♣♣♣♣ This course changed my perspective on the environment and culture forever. The discussions we had were so enriching and interesting I am so happy I was in this seminar!

♣♣♣♣♣ Thank you! A truly unique and informative class. Using history to learn about today, looking at events with an environmental lens, becoming conscious of our actions’ impact – so interesting.

♣♣♣♣♣ Great course, inspired me and taught me to examine literature with a completely different mindset. Hiltner is clearly very passionate about the course. Just don’t get behind on the readings!

♣♣♣♣♣ I found this section to be incredibly informative, engaging, and helpful in understanding the material of the course as well as discussing the ideas covered in lecture in detail. The diversity of opinions and interests in the section was crucial in discussions.

♣♣♣♣♣ Interesting material that insightfully connects very old literature to modern environmental issues that are relevant today.

♣♣♣♣♣ This course was extremely interesting and valuable to my understanding of not only the material but also how I can apply it to my life.
