This week\u2019s reading is the chapter on \u201cCommunicating Climate Change Science<\/a>\u201d (Chapter 8) from the book\u00a0Bending the Curve: Climate Change Solutions<\/em>, which is a University of California publication. Note that while the link is to a PDF of the entire book, you are only required to read Chapter 8.<\/p>\n

Films<\/strong><\/p>\n

Please watch\u00a0either<\/em>\u00a0the documentary\u00a0Being the Change: Live Well and Spark a Climate Revolution<\/em>\u00a0or\u00a0Tomorrow<\/em>\u00a0(Demain<\/em>) according to these guidelines:<\/p>\n

1) If you have NOT taken Eng 22 (Intro to L & E) in 2019 or 2020, please watch Being the Change<\/em>. It is available for viewing on GauchoSpace (GauchoCast). If you are not enrolled in the class, it currently can be rented for a relatively modest fee from Amazon.<\/p>\n

2) If you have taken taken Eng 22 in 2019 or 2020, please instead watch\u00a0Tomorrow<\/em>. It is up on GauchoCast. If you are not enrolled in the class, it currently can be rented for a relatively modest fee from YouTube, Amazon, Google, etc.<\/p>\n

Lecture videos<\/strong><\/p>\n

There are three required lectures this week:<\/p>\n

First, please watch this lecture by Ken: \u201cHousing and Cities.”<\/a><\/p>\n

Note that you\u00a0are not<\/em>\u00a0required to post comments to this video, even though there are hundreds of responses to it. These posts are from 2019-20, when responding was a requirement of the course, which it is not in 2020-21.<\/p>\n

Second, please watch\u00a0both<\/em>\u00a0of these \u201cDeep Dive\u201d lectures by Ken:<\/p>\n

1) The Green New Deal<\/a>\u00a0 (The written comments to which Ken is replying\u00a0can be found here<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

2) Social justice, environmental justice, climate justice, and the injustice of it all<\/a>. (The written comments to which Ken is replying can be found here<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

Weekly Assessments<\/strong><\/p>\n

Please note that assessments need to be completed by 6 AM on Monday, March 1. <\/em>GauchoSpace will close the lecture quizzes at that time and any film comment made on YouTube past that point will be considered late.<\/p>\n

After completing the week’s reading and watching all four of the above lecture videos (the two short lectures and the two deep dives), please go to GauchoSpace and take the short quiz for this week, which is located in the weekly section.<\/p>\n

After reading the material from Bending the Curve<\/em>, please watch Ken\u2019s video on YouTube introducing this material<\/a>\u00a0and comment on his introduction.<\/p>\n

If you cannot view the above video on YouTube (for example, if YouTube is blocked in your country):<\/p>\n

1) The lecture has also been uploaded to GauchoSpace (GauchoCast).<\/p>\n

2) A forum has been opened under this week on GauchoSpace for you to make your comment there (rather than on YouTube).<\/p>\n

Note that while Ken\u2019s introduction covers both of the above films, you only need to comment on the film that you watched, though you are free to comment on both.<\/p>\n
